As the ISAF operations in Afghanistan begin to draw to a close with the anticipated removal of combat forces from the region in 2014, it is useful to make a preliminary assessment of the likely prospects of the post-transition period.
The aim of the meeting has been to provide a forum for high level discussions on the scenarios to be envisaged and the measures to be taken in the phasing out and after the end of the NATO mission in Afghanistan and its implications for the country, the region and the Alliance.

The outcome of the event will contribute significantly to a reassessment of NATO’s strategies and those of the international community vis-à-vis a viable transition and after 2014.
